More dreams
Aug. 18th, 2020 02:49 pmIt's a little late to be recording these, since they've faded away almost entirely, but...
The night before last, I had two dreams that I remembered somewhat on waking. One involved going to some kind of party or convention, and some people (or at least one person) from my high school were there or came with me or something. The other one involved a trip to my (long-deceased) grandfather's house in (eastern?) Florida, where there were a bunch of relatives gathered... From there, I was going to go to another house he owned (which didn't exist even when he was alive) in western Florida where there was a lot of swampy land. I remember looking at a map of Florida (that looked nothing like the actual shape of Florida), and having that "primordial" feeling I sometimes get in dreams (or maybe even in reality) when working with maps and traveling to more alien areas of my dream-earth, especially the poles (my dream-earth seems much smaller than the real Earth, but maybe it's just the weirdness of perspective).
Last night, I had a dream in which I was walking somewhere at night in a large city (seemingly wrapped up in a large blanket). I was told it wasn't safe, and I responded something about where the lights were. A lot of my image of the city is actually from above, looking down on it. While I was ambling along in this blanket, I was scooped up and put into a trunk, and my response to this was mostly disbelief in it actually happening. Then the trunk turned into the back of a van which looked like my van but in the dream belonged to my parents. The vehicle dissolved away and I was following my parents down some sets of stairs in what looked like a well-lit parking garage. Later, we were in a conversion van of sorts, in which there didn't seem to be seats in the back, and was discussing the shag carpeting in the van with my dad. There was some reference to a green carpet that my grandmother had had, and according to my dad, she treated it with "baby manure" to keep it shiny. This was gross of course (whatever baby manure might be), although I had really liked that carpet. (What I was picturing as the green carpet was actually a velvety material from my grandmother's sofa.) At this point, I started imagining looking closely at the fibers of the material and seeing and feeling a grungy gunk on it. Then, for some reason, I came up with the idea of getting my kids "drum backpacks" (which I guess looked basically like a cylindrical duffel bag but with a rigid frame), because then they could use their backpacks as stool-like seating in this van with no seats and as a drum for playing music. So practical!
The disbelief in being kidnapped while wandering alone at night in a city kinda fits with my general expectation that "bad things don't happen to me" and lack of concern about safety things (that's what my husband is for), and also the fact that I have had only a couple of nightmares in my entire life. Often, when I dream of my dad, it involves a van (I assume this is because I have a strong association between him and driving, especially a van). I probably dreamed of my dad because he went AMA from his nursing care facility yesterday. I don't know where the carpeting and baby manure came from. Backpacks=thoughts about getting stuff for back-to-school; I don't know why they were drums and stools as well, but I do like things to have multiple uses. I still wonder what I was looking for in the unfamiliar city alone at night, and what it had to do with "light"...
